This was modeled from observations of a magnificent black Peruvian Paso stallion, Cortesano, who graciously allowed me into his stall to sketch him. He had won the Champion of Champions award at the Peruvian Paso National Show three years in a row, so was retired as ‘Laureado’. Peruvian Paso horses first arrived in Peru around 400 years ago from Spain and were bred to have what is called ‘brio’, which means they have to have the fire within them to go bravely into battle with the courage and strength to endure incredible hardships, while at the same time they were bred to have the most gentle of natures. They are also the most comfortable of riding horses, with a naturally smooth four-beat pacing gait. This gait and the winging motion of their front legs, which is called ‘termino’, is inborn to every purebred Peruvian Paso horse. This bronze can have a patina in the color of your choice, if desired. Brio
